Naomy Espinosa Perez

Volunteer Coordinator, Internal Affairs Co-Coordinator

My name is Naomy Espinosa Perez and my pronouns are She, Her, and Hers. I am currently studying Ethnic Studies and Global Health. I am the Volunteer Coordinator, Internal Affairs Co-Coordinator and work alongside the Outreach Coordinator.  I am passionate about social justice, sustainability, and community building. I am happy to be a part of this effort to combat food insecurity and help maintain and promote a resource that will benefit everyone in our community.

Tigist Assaye

Financial Coordinator and the Internal Affairs Co-Coordinator

My name is Tigist Assaye and my pronouns are She, Her, Hers. I’m currently a third-year at the University of California San Diego studying General Biology and Global Health. I am the Financial Coordinator and the Internal Affairs Co-Coordinator. I’m always trying to give back to the community where I can and I believe we can do this by working together to combat food insecurity by providing healthy and sustainable food in City Heights. 

Liliana Soriano Garista

Media & Marketing Coordinator and Internal Affairs Co-Coordinator

My name is Liliana Soriano Garista and my pronouns are She, Her, Hers. I am currently working on my undergrad at the University of California San Diego, studying Political Science hoping one day I get to work in our local government.  I currently hold the position, Media & Marketing Coordinator and Internal Affairs Co-Coordinator. I feel excited to continue being a  part of the upbringing of the fridge because of my involvement in local organizations in City Heights that have taught me the importance of community organization and unity.

Brittany Jones Black

Outreach Coordinator

My name is Brittany Black and my pronouns are She, Her, Hers. I’m currently working on my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Southern California. I currently hold the position, Outreach Coordinator. I grew up on the idea of paying it forward to our City Heights Community. I’ve been in City Heights my entire life, so this work means a lot to me. When one person is hungry in the City Heights, we’re all hungry!

Jasmine Labastida

Media & Marketing Associate 

My name is Jasmine/AJ Labastida and my pronouns are They, Them, Theirs. I am currently a senior in highschool who works as a part-time tutor for kids and am interested in pursuing a career in humanities or the arts. I am currently working alongside the Media & Marketing Coordinator.  This collective has pushed me to seek education on food insecurity, sustainability and to continue to pursue involvement in other community efforts. I am thankful for the opportunity to positively impact City Heights and I hope to help this collective contribute to other areas of San Diego. 

Abe Emmanuel Shklar

Host

My name is Abe Shklar and my pronouns are He, Him, His. I’m a teacher at Patrick Henry High School. My favorite parts of teaching are building meaningful relationships with young people and watching them empower themselves through social justice education. I hold the role of the host which entails providing and maintaining the space for the community fridge and work alongside the Outreach Coordinator. Outside of teaching, I have a good amount of experience organizing with nonprofits and community organizations, working in food pantries, and facilitating social justice education. It’s been an incredible experience working closely with such passionate young adults from City Heights, and I’m excited to continue this work moving forward.
